I know you didn't ask, but here's more about me anyway

Stuff that exists between the lines of my CV

Living on the edge.

I've fulfilled pre-press and technical management roles in my business as well as amongst studio teams. At Copyland in the early 90's I was technical team leader for the commissioning and installation of PhotoCD, an A3+ Imagesetter, Digital Printing as well as cross platform file downloads. At Artcell I was involved in the installation of an A2+ imagesetter that delivered film and paper print-ready artwork for Smiths CIty, Four Square, Pak 'N Save and New World artwork for nationwide despatch. At the Graphiteers I oversaw the commissioning of a 1.3 metre electrostatic printer as well as the Indigo and Sun work stations that provided the RIP for the Xerox and Canon digital printers. In these situations I was also instrumental in training the teams I worked with and providing materials that allowed the efficient use of the technology and made sure deadlines were met and that no one got hurt on the sharp leading edges. I've been working with toner based printers for the last 15 years.

The internet

Use of the internet has been a prerequisite for our customers, I understand the underlying code and much of the software used to generate web content, from hand coding elements to using tools such as Dreamweaver and GoLive as well as the use of PHP in CMS and Database driven web content. I've built web sites for my company and those of our clients. Current live sites are > ninefish, > Benchmark homes and > Adfund . I have developed other sites for our clients, but these are current.

Making technology talk (and users understand too)

A career in Graphics and a penchant for technology has always meant living on the bleeding edge. Making technology converse with other technology, and software interconnect intelligibly across networks of cables, as well as people, has been an exciting part of that journey. It's also meant picking up some of the language dialects along the way, I am fluent in geek, and can communicate in postscript, HTML, XHTML and XML if backed into a corner with technicians or angry software whether that be on Macintosh, Windows or UNIX boxes.
I have always utilised tools to automate as much work as possible, either by hard coding repetitive data entry using databases such as FileMaker Pro or through macro tools such as QuicKeys which are easily moved to other team members once developed.

Teams

Working at Artcell meant working alongside up to 16 artists and designers. Overseeing and troubleshooting file creation, data backup, and more importantly instigating systems to find and retrieve artwork studio-wide were important parts of working in a large team.
The Graphiteers was a smaller team of three artists that didn't quite develop into the larger studio originally envisioned by Aubrey largely because of the development of much cheaper large-format inkjet printers installed by competitors.
I've been working with teams both large and small since I began my working life, and continue to lead teams both at home [seven children] and within Scouting.

Systematic

Once I began my own business it was soon plain that systems would make things repeatable, effective and profitable. As I began the process of adding team members to ninefish, the system manual made induction and ongoing training faster and easier to implement, and interaction with the clients and suppliers consistent and effective.
Control through simple and consistently delivered systems is a core skill developed over the last 25 years, as a production manager, a teacher, a graphic designer and business owner.
Over the last thirteen years I have also developed software systems in FileMaker Pro that are the backbone of our project management, customer relationship management and invoicing systems. These core databases also get data from the group scheduling and diary software and feed the necessary data to the accounting department.

Vision

I've always been working with visual design, I have built ninefish around the concept that design should be invisible, but that structure is crucial to understanding. I have a portfolio of graphic work that I would be glad to show to you.
I have an intense grounding in creative design but have also been striving to deliver growth for the companies and client's I've worked with, through better systems, efficiencies and predominantly strategic insight.
